We are looking for an Environmental Engineer! The position of the vacancy is situated in the Environmental department, managed by the Environmental Manager. Under general supervision, provides technical support and guidance for environmental projects and programs at assigned site. Improve, analyze and maintain Environmental and Quality (EQ) management system in support of Climax Rotterdam organization projects. Ensure that all environmental processes and procedures are consistent and in alignment with Dutch legislation law and Freeport McMoran policies.

About this role

Essential Functions:

  • Contribute to maintenance, monitoring and reporting of all company Environmental programs
  • (GRI, Air Quality, Water Quality, Waste Management etcetera)
  • Evaluates and assesses environmental risks
  • Maintains working knowledge of national, regional and local environmental and other applicable regulations
  • Maintains knowledge of site environmental policies and procedures
  • Contribute to maintenance, monitoring and reporting of all Environmental Permitting requirements
  • Collaborates in ISO 14001 / 9001 certification and maintenance and EMS program maintenance
  • Contribute to site level environmental training
  • Serve as technical expert on environmental projects
  • Enter data and provide technical support to Climax Rotterdam for EQ databases, prepare reports and monitor timelines
  • Participates in regular audits and inspections of operations areas for purposes of ensuring compliance with site environmental policies, procedures and requirements of the Environmental Management System
  • Interpret EQ audit results and discuss the corrective actions, if necessary change procedure and communicate the changes to users
  • Performs other duties as assigned

About you

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering
  • (Environmental, Civil, Chemical, Agricultural, Mining, Metallurgical, Geological or similar)
  • Two plus (2+) years environmental or related experience

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written (in Dutch and English) communications skills
  • Technical expertise in the areas of air, water quality, waste management or permitting
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Experience in interfacing with regulatory agencies and evaluating and complying with regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail in all contact with regulatory agencies
  • Familiar with or willing to learn about management systems (ISO 9001, 14001)
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
